How to take care of your trophies and medals
All about trophies
Trophies are given to people in lieu of their surprising performance that lead to victory. These mementos serve as a reminder of success and a proof as well. Trophies come in a variety of types, sizes and shapes to meet every budget. Silver and gold trophies are the most expensive trophies and are the most preferred ones. Trophies act like a sense of achievement and are therefore, admired for years. Trophy comes from French word ‘trophee’ which indicates a thing of a looser than the winner receives. It can be anything ranging from armour to a body part. Metals and wood were the only materials used for trophy making earlier. However, trophies made of crystal and marbles have become common these days.
How can you renovate your degraded medals and trophies?
Trophies need the same care and attention that any expensive item would require. They should be prevented from any damage. If the trophies have already been damaged, restoring it is difficult. People may take the help of professionals who deal with restoration of ancient artifacts. However, they cannot guarantee complete or even satisfactory restoration.
Why trophies loose their shine with time?
With time, dust takes away the shine of the object and makes it look dull. The trophies therefore, need frequent light dusting. Frequent touching may also cause damages to the awards as the skin oil left by our touch causes the metal to loose its shine. People should not keep these objects at a place where they receive direct sunlight for a prolonged period. Sunlight creates heat and causes the metals to expand. Trophies will therefore loose their shape with time. People should keep these belongings in climate-controlled atmosphere. This will protect them from mold and mildew, which develop due to dampness.
Maintaining trophies
It is not enough to put them at the most visible corner of the room and let them be there forever. These trophies and awards need maintenance as well. Degradation of trophies and medals is a natural process as they are made of metals. A proper maintenance can prevent early damage to them. Neglecting them for years may cause severe deterioration to them and make them unfit for display.
