The Motive behind CSA
The objective of CSA
All intrastate vehicles that carry hazardous materials are liable for CSA. Compliance, Safety, Accountability program is applicable for all interstate heavy commercial vehicles that weigh over 10,000 lbs. The carrier owners do not have to undergo any training. Basic information about safety standards will work.
The working process of CSA
The safety standards are measured by behavior analysis and safety improvement categories (BASICs). Some of the BASICs are number of hours-of-service(hos) of a driver, the maintenance of vehicles, possession or consumption of alcohol, drugs or other addicting substances, medical fitness of the driver, training and experience that the driver has, etc. The safety measurement system (SMS) analyses the potential risks that are associated with a vehicle and its driver. Safety issues faced by the drivers are also highlighted by SMS. The measurement parameters are from 0 to 100, the one who gets 100 percentile will be considered as the worst performer. After measurement of safety standards, FMCSA identifies the candidates that require intervention.
How can you evaluate the safety standards of a carrier?
CSA also suggests solutions to such safety related problems. It supports them for taking corrective actions. The intervention process makes the people understand the safety issues that are associated with them and how can they improve their safety conditions. The evaluation stage is all about determining those methods that will work for the violators of CSA. The requirements of all performers vary. By evaluating each case differently, CSA can customize the policies so that they can match a particular case. Unfit carriers can also be identified by evaluation. In many cases, when the carriers do not take the suggestions seriously, FMCSA does not mind even punishing them.
Definition of CSA
The three principles around which CSA revolves are measurement, evaluation and intervention This program is initiated to enhance the safety situation of commercial vehicles thereby reducing the number of fatalities that are related to them. CSA was commenced in 2010. This works towards creating safer roads for public. Compliance, Safety, Accountability is a road safety program initiated by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). It is also known as CSA.
